Tinubu's Ministerial List: Dele Alake And Bayo Onanuga Should Be Ashamed

By a Concerned Nigerian

These 2 failures of the infant Tinubu government are close Aides and Senior Advisers who promised Nigerians in March 2023 that we would see a marked difference in the Tinubu administration, as it concerns the readiness of the Tinubu government to hit the ground running in terms of forming his national cabinet.

President Bola Tinubu

They both individually set a timeline of 30days ahead of the 60days timeline signed into law by Buhari, who ironically is the 6months late comer that did not want his predecessors to be like him.

Today is day 54. Today is also 24days overdue for the serious government standard they set. Dele Alake has suddenly gone mute. Bayo Onanuga has no official role in government yet, but we know he is a close confidant of President Tinubu.

A government that has proven to be unreliable in its promise over a simple matter of cabinet nomination, despite the many months of post election transition, and is now struggling to meet the lawful deadline of 60days, cannot inspire confidence in even its most ardent supporters.

This begs the question, how prepared is the Tinubu regime to tackle the serious and complex problems we have as a nation, if it cannot attain a simple milestone set by its own top officials for a mere nomination that is the exclusive preserve of the Presidency?

Are we on another roller coaster ride where indecision and delay is the order of the day?

Is Tinubu “shocked” that his ministerial nominations are yet to be released by himself?

Morning shows the day.

What I can assure is that however unprepared the Tinubu regime is to meeting up with the challenges of national governance, him and his team have no choice but to perform the job he sought.

At day 54, we ask Tinubu to stop being unserious, casual and irresponsible. Nominate your cabinet today and move fast to recover lost ground of the current public perception that the Tinubu regime does not have the capacity to deliver on its own renewed hope.

Speaking with The Punch correspondents in May the Special Adviser to the president-elect, Mr Dele Alake, disclosed that it would not take Tinubu up to 60 days to assemble a team of competent hands for his government.

He said, “I told you in an earlier interview that it didn’t take Asiwaju more than three weeks to form his cabinet as governor. That was as at that time. I think 60 days is even too much. A month, maximum, is enough for any serious government to form its cabinet and put a structure of government in place after the swearing-in.”

His position was re-echoed by the Director of Media and Publicity for the All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Council, Bayo Onanuga.

Although he declined to give details, Onanuga distanced his principal from some names of possible cabinet members being mentioned in the media.

He added, “What I can assure you is that even if the list is not ready on the first day, it will not take Asiwaju more than one month to put his cabinet together. He definitely will not wait for 60 days to assemble a competent cabinet.”
