The newly appointed Chairman of Enyimba Football Club Kanu Nwankwo has ordered the immediate sack of all coaches, staff, management and crew attached to the club, IgbereTV has learned.
The Abia state governor, Alex Otti had few days ago announced the appointment of the former super eagles captain as the Chairman of the nation’s most successful football club.
In a leaked memo signed by the clubs Sporting Director, Mr Ekwueme, Kanu directed all coaches, staff, management and crew of Enyimba FC to re-apply for their positions within 48 hours.
Finidi, a Nigeria football legend, won the 2023 NPL title in June after emerging top in the Super 6 Play-off in Lagos.
Attempts to get Kanu’s comments proved abortive as phone call, WhatsApp voice note and WhatsApp message sent to him were not answered nor response received at the time of this report.
However, an insider who is knowledgeable in the team’s affairs, told BestChoiceSports that disengaging the staff and asking them to reapply was not unconnected with the recent change of leadership in the club.
“For now, there are no issues in the club but I feel the development is not unconnected with the change of government in the state and also leadership of the club.
“Kanu just came in and he would need to get his own people on board in order to achieve his projections. What he did is not out of place but the issue is that all these are happening too soon especially after a wonderful season,” the source who craved not to be mentioned, informed.
It could be recalled that both Kanu and Finidi were teammates at Ajax when the duo won the 1995 UEFA Champions League.
