Video: 'Tears' As Sanwo-olu Demolishes Buildings at Alaba International Market

The Lagos state government has started demolishing buildings it described as ‘Distressed’ in Alaba international Market Ojo Lagos, IgbereTV reports.

Atleast 17 Mega plazas were pulled down on Saturday 17th June, 2023.

Reacting to the development, some of the traders in tears pleaded with Gov Babajide Sanwo-olu to compensate the shop owners who are victims of the demolition.

Some of the victims said the demolition is politically motivated. They say the government is carrying out the demolition to punish the Igbo traders because they allegedly voted against the ruling All Progressives Congress APC during the last general elections.

Listen to one of the traders:

“Government has right to demolish buildings they deem defective or even areas they deem not good for the decent environment, but when they target areas used by a particular tribe constantly the motive begins to cause raised eye brow.

“The below Pictures are from a popular Alaba Rago area in Lagos where most northerners do their trade.

“The place is an eye sour…but Lagos State Government did not deem it fit to demolish the place for reasons everybody knows.

“If this place is dominated by the Igbos won’t the Yorubas have sang to heavens that the place should be destroyed and a shopping mall built?

“Why are they moving about looking for places Igbos stay to demolish the places…

“Is it because the northerners are not as calm and humble as the Igbos…

“The video below as an example of what I am talking about.

“All citizens should be seen to be treated equally.”
