Despite PDP's Majority, LP's Emeruwa, Okezie Emerge New Abia Speaker, Deputy

Members-elect of the Abia state House of Assembly have elected new speaker and Deputy Speaker.

IgbereTV reports that Rt.  Hon. Emmanuel Ihuoma Emeruwa of the Labour Party, emerged as the Speaker — an office that has traditionally been occupied by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Emeruwa is the lawmaker representing Aba South State Constituency.

The development has ignited discussions within political circles as Emeruwa, 57, emerged as Speaker of the 8th Abia House of Assembly against the wish of members elected on the platform of the the PDP.

PDP has 11 seats while the Labour Party occupies 10 seats.

Following the inauguration of the 8th Abia Assembly on Wednesday, the lawmakers also elected Labour party’s Austine Okezie, the member representing Umuahia East state Constituency, as Deputy Speaker.
