Criticisms spurred me to achievements – Ex-Council chairman

The immediate past chairman of Yakurr local government area of Cross River State, Ofem Ebri Obeten has said the many criticisms that trailed his administration, especially those from his political opponents, were the elixir that spurred him and his team to greater success.

He disclosed this when he gave a valedictory speech at the council headquarters on Wednesday.

He said the criticism kept him awake most times and made him strive for the best possible.

He alluded to the fact that he must have made some mistakes but insisted that he and his team made giant strides.

Obeten said, “I must have made some mistakes. I must have wronged you and stepped on some toes. But I appeal for forgiveness.

“It couldn’t have been possible without you and the criticisms that we got. Like it is often said, no one achieves success without the help of others.

“Let me extend my profound gratitude to all my members of exco and the bureaucrats who assisted us out with some of the most fundamental questions that we had.

“We laud our friends, families and foes for their patience, support and love, through their constructive criticisms, provision of one form of support or the other helped us to make better achievements.”

He, however, remarked that the incessant outbreaks of communal clashes, chieftaincy tussles, cultism, and banditry almost marred his feats but happiness that they were all overcame
