LaLiga: Real Madrid, Barcelona banned from using ‘El Clasico’

Real Madrid and Barcelona have been banned from using the iconic term ‘El Clasico’ when describing their fixtures.

A legal ruling has now denied the two LaLiga giants from promoting their matches against each other with the term.

Relevo reports that neither club will be able to use the term anymore.

The Patent and Trademark Office in Spain have ruled that there is a risk of confusion between Real and Barca using the term, and the term already established by La Liga.

LaLiga refer to the game as “ElClasico”, but the office insisted that term is already too well established.

Forbes also reports that the office argued that the two clubs trademarking El Clasico would lead to an association between that, and La Liga’s long-standing trademark, hence their denial
