The Abia state assembly is currently in session at the Assembly complex, presided over by the speaker, Rt. Hon. Chinedum Orji.

The lawmakers suspended the deputy speaker Hon Uchendu and immediately elected a new deputy speaker, Hon. Mandela Obasi, who was subsequently Sworn-in by the Clark of the Assembly.

This is coming hours after a faction led by the deputy speaker, sat in a bar and allegedly impeached the speaker, Rt. Hon. Chinedum Orji.
