Probe missing 149 million barrels of crude oil – SERAP tells Buhari

Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project, SERAP, has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to establish presidential panel of enquiry to probe the allegations of missing 149 million barrels of crude oil.

Recall that a document in the 2019 audited reports by the Auditor General of the Federation and Nigeria Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (NEITI), revealed that 146 million barrels of crude oil is missing.

In a statement on Sunday, SERAP’s deputy director, Kolawole Oluwadare urged Buhari to ensure that those responsible were probed and prosecuted.

The group said Buhari’s government has 7 days to commence the probe or face legal action.

“As the President and substantive Minister of Petroleum Resources, you and your government need to prioritise getting to the root of these allegations and use the remainder of your term of office to ensure justice and accountability for these serious crimes against the Nigerian people”, the statement partly read
