… Rolls out Tinubu-Awolowo posters at Atiku Enugu rally
A former governor of Enugu state who was expelled from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for campaigning for Bola Ahmed Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has added a new twist to his campaigns against his own party.
Nnamani had been suspended by the PDP on January 20, for refusing to support Alhaji Atiku Abubakar of the PDP and preferring Tinubu. He was subsequently expelled when he failed to stop.
But in apparent defiance of his party and its constitution, Nnamani insulted Atiku Abubakar by rolling out campaign posters bearing Obafemi Awolowo, Bola Ahmed Tinubu and himself.
Recall that Chief Obafemi Awolowo, foremost Yoruba political leader, ran for presidency in the 1960s, 70s and 80s, a period when Dr Nnamdi Azikiwe also contested and emerged president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
The posters were used to deface walls and pillars around the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Stadium Enugu, venue for the Atiku rally. They were also pasted over Atiku’s posters that were already placed in those areas.
The former governor was running for the Enugu East Senate seat, until his expulsion from the party.
At the moment, Mr Nnamani has lost his status as the party’s candidate, as there is no provision for independence candidacy in the Nigerian constitution or in the Electoral Act.
