Whistleblower policy targeted at exposing corruption has lost momentum – Minister of Finance

The Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Zainab Ahmed, has said the country’s Whistleblower Policy, targeted at exposing corruption, has lost its momentum, IgbereTV reports

The policy inaugurated six years ago stipulated that whistleblowers would earn from 2.5% to 5% from the funds recovered by the government.

The minister disclosed this during his remarks after the Federal Wednesday Executive Council (FEC) meeting, stating that a draft bill would be introduced to revitalize the policy.

She explained that the purpose of operationalizing the Policy through a draft bill is to strengthen the fight against corruption and the protection of whistleblowers.

She says, “We noticed that the whistleblower policy response had lost momentum. We embarked on engagements in the six geo-political zones, and one of the main outcomes we found is that people are concerned about their safety due to providing information. So, this bill is critical to ensure the effectiveness of the retention of the whistle policy
