The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has praised Appeal Court judges for their courage over Thursday’s court ruling in favour of its detained leader Nnamdi Kanu.
The group also commended Kanu’s team of lawyers for their doggedness towards ensuring victory was achieved.
In a statement by its Media and Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful however accused Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami of “doing the biddings of his brothers and kinsmen” to prolong Kanu’s detention.
It urged relevant agents of government involved in the matter to obey court order and stop making mockery of themselves locally and internationally.
The statement reads in part: “We wish to commend the Appeals Court Judges for their boldness in the landmark ruling that have taken sleep away from Attorney General of Nigeria and DSS’s eyes.
“We equally appreciate our indomitable team of lawyers Barrister Ifeanyi Ejiofor, Barrister Aloy Ejimakor, Barrister Nnaemeka Ejiofor, Barrister maxwell Okpara and others led by Chief Mike Ozekhome (SAN). We thank all of you who never capitulated until this legal victory was achieved.
“By now the Nigeria Federal Government, Attorney General, and Department of State Services should understand that God Almighty Chukwu Okike Abiama is behind what we are doing and nothing will stop us from getting Biafra at the table where everybody will rejoice. The earlier they schedule a date for Referendum the better for all of us.
“The Appeals Court discharged and acquitted our Leader, Mazi Nnamdi KANU from all charges against him because of Nigeria’s executive rascality in kidnapping and extraordinarily renditioning him from Kenya to Nigeria.
“But for the Attorney General, Malami and DSS Agents to interpret the ruling otherwise means that they are either legally daft or they want to be above the Nigeria constitution that they claim to uphold. We in IPOB will not take such legal barbarism from Malami and those he represents lying down.
“The Nigeria President publicly told Elder Amaechi Mbazuluike, professor Jorge Obiozor Ohaneze Ndigbo President and other Igbo leaders who visited and appealed for presidential fiat to be applied in the release of Mazi Nnamdi KANU but the President said that they should wait for the court to decide.
“Even in one of the international meetings, the Ex- British Prime Minister, Mr. Boris Johnson asked him why is Mazi NNAMDI KANU still in detention, and he claimed that he will not interfere with the judiciary. Now the same Judiciary have decided on this case. They must obey their own court and stop making a mockery of themselves both locally and internationally.
“We are aware that Abubakar. Malami is doing the biddings of his brothers and kinsmen to keep our Leader in detention longer, but we assure them that they cannot change what the competent court has said because the world is watching them.
“United Nations Working group have given them instructions to ensure the quick and unconditional release of our Leader, OHAMADIKE within six months. Now the Appeals Court of Nigeria have also discharged and acquitted him and call for his immediate release.
“Nigeria Presidency have the opportunity to release him unconditionally and save themselves from the shame that will befall them. IPOB is ready to bring more shame against them if they delay in releasing Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.
“Pharaoh, let God’s servant Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and his people go or face more plagues. A stitch in time saves nine.”
