Minister of state for education Emeka Nwajiuba has resigned his appointment, presidential spokesman Garba Shehu said on Wednesday.
His resignation followed President Muhammadu Buhari’s directive for his cabinet members seeking elective offices to resign on or before May 16.
Shehu confirmed the minister’s resignation to Channels Television.
The order affects ministers such as Abubakar Malami running for Kebbi governorship seat, and presidential aspirants Rotimi Amaechi, Godswill Akpabio, Chris Ngige, and Ogbonnaya Onu.
Others are Uche Ogar, who is running for Abia governorship position, and Pauline Tallen, vying for Plateau senatorial seat.
Minister of information and culture Lai Mohammed stressed earlier that this mandate excludes Vice President Yemi Osinbajo because he is an elected member of the cabinet.
He affirmed that any amendment or additions to this directive will be disseminated accordingly.
The minister added that if the need arises, the directive might involve political appointees. A media aide of the president Bashir Ahmad is vying for a seat in the House of Representatives.
