Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has visited the tomb of the first Prime Minister of Nigeria Tafawa Balewa during his trip to Bauchi.

Prof Osinbajo said he paid respect during his visit to the home state of the late Nigerian leader.

“At the tomb of Alhaji Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa, the first and only Prime Minister of Nigeria to pay respect as we visited Bauchi,” he said.

Balewa served the country as first and only prime minister from 1957 to 1966.

His administration was overthrown in a military coup on January 15, 1966. Balewa lost his life in the incident.

Osinbajo, who is running for president, was in Bauchi to meet party delegates ahead of the presidential primaries of the All Progressives Congress.

The number two citizen also paid respect to the Emir of Bauchi, Rilwanu Adamu.
