Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia state has declared Thursday, May 5 as Public Holiday in the state.
A state signed by Barr Chris Ezem, Secretary to the State Government and sent to IgbereTV said public holiday was to enable residents participate in the ongoing voter registration.
The statement reads in part:
“Sequel to extensive review of the ongoing voters registration exercise in the state which revealed lower than expected public participation, government hereby declares Thursday, 5th May, 2022 a public holiday to enable those who are yet to take part in the exercise to do the needful in fulfilment of their civic rights and responsibilities.
“To this end, all markets, schools, government and other public offices are to be closed to ensure full participation.”
Recall that IPOB had earlier declared May 5 and 6 as sit at home day in protest against the visit of President Muhammadu Buhari to Ebonyi state.
