Suspended NPA MD, Bala-Usman, Meets President Buhari

Managing director of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) Hadiza Usman, who is currently suspended, met President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday in Zaria, Kaduna.

It is the first time the duo would be meeting in public since Buhari ordered her suspension in May 2021 as part of moves to “allow an independent audit of the accounts and remittances of the agency” under her watch.

She was accused of breaches contravening government’s financial regulations regarding low remittances by the NPA.

Since Usman’s suspension, Mohammed Koko has been overseeing the agency’s affairs in acting capacity.

Usman, a former aide of Governor Nasir El-Rufai, met Buhari when the latter paid a courtesy visit to the emir of Zazzau Ahmed Bamalli in Zaria as part of his two-day working visit to Kaduna.

Usman recently debunked reports that she was indicted by the auditor general of the federation and that she had received her sack letter.

A panel set up by the minister of transportation Rotimi Amaechi to investigate alleged infractions by Usman is yet to submit its findings.
