The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has recently suspended a former Commissioner of Education for using his official media handle to comment on a wrestling competition.
Tony Nwaka, a 56years Ogwashi born who in 2015 became Commissioner of Education in Delta State has taken to his media handle to lament the shocking occurrence revealing the official letter he was served containing his punishment, suspension among others.
The letter signed by Nwandu Patrick, PDP Ward-2 Chairman, Ogwashi Uku, Aniocha South area of Delta State reads;
“You are by this letter suspended from the party for a period of one month to enable disciplinary committee to investigate your breaching of section 58(b) (h) this is to enable you to come and defend what you posted on Facebook on the 13th, December 2021.”
Reacting to this through his media handle, Tony said “I hope to meet the panel on how a satire about a wrestling competition that held ten years ago in which no identities or locations were indicated, now constitutes an offense to a political party”
The Asaba base Political and Social History graduate (PHD) after making an enquiry at the party’s secretariat about the said post that sparked up this gross emergency sanction said he was handed a copy of the post dated 13 December, 2021, which reads;
“THIS IS WICKED, SADISTIC AND DEMONIC. STOP IT NOW”
This singular incident has erupted a lot of reactions from Nigerians as many are still lost in the correlation of a random unpolitical post with a sudden political suspension.
Others are opining that it is a strategy of disenfranchising and withholding the politician’s right of expression.
Few suggest a decamp to the ruling party (APC) since his loyalty service is no longer required just like Gov. Obaseki of Edo State after being disqualified by his former party from contesting the second term bid election which he later won after joining PDP, which was then an opposition party.
