Buhari Not In Support Of Emergency In Anambra – Obiano Claims

Anambra State Governor Willie Obiano says President Muhammdu Buhari is not in support of declaring a state of emergency if insecurity persists in the state ahead of the November governorship polls.

Mr Obiano stated this on Thursday following a meeting with the president at Aso Villa, Abuja.

Attorney general of the federation and minister of justice Abubakar Malami had said on Wednesday after the federal executive council meeting in Abuja that the governorship election must hold in Anambra, adding that the federal government would not fail to declare a state of emergency if it becomes necessary.

Anambra has witnessed attacks in recent times both on private property and government facilities.

“That’s a very unfortunate comment by the attorney-general Malami. Very unfortunate. I also reported that to the President and this is not in the books of the President because he knows that Anambra has been the safest state in Nigeria for seven years plus,” Obiano told State House reporters.

He wondered why Malami had not contemplated the imposition of emergency rule in northern states ravaged by bandits.

Obiano added that he would personally speak with Malami over the threat.
