~As Governor Umahi Appeals To Contractors To Ensure Delivery In Eighteen Months

The Ebonyi State Government has signed a contract for the construction of the second Phase of the Abakaliki Ring Road. The second Phase of the Ring Road project spans from Nwezenyi Junction to 135 junctions Ezzamgbo.

The signing of the contract agreement took place at the Governor’s office, new Government House, Ochoudo Centenary City, Abakaliki on Wednesday.

Speaking after the signing of the Contract, Governor David Nweze Umahi said the project occupies a pride of place in the mandate of his administration.

He appealed to all the contractors to endeavour to prosecute the project in speed and according to specifications to ensure that the project is completed within the 18 months period.

The Governor while advising the Contractors to collaborate with their host communities to ensure seamless project execution, warned that the State Government would not entertain any request for variation due to delay.

He directed the Chairmen of Local Government Areas and Traditional Rulers from the benefitting areas to ensure maximum security for the contractors and their equipment.

The Governor who directed full swing patrol of all localities by the Ebubeagu Security outfit to stamp out miscreants, warned that the State under his watch would not afford to witness loss of lives under whatever guise.

Governor Umahi further warned that henceforth, should there be breach of peace in any locality in the State, all stakeholders, including the Traditional rulers, Coordinators of Development Centres and Council Chairmen from the area would be held accountable.

“There will be no killings again or burning of houses in my state, if the problem is that they don’t have anything doing, bring them, I will find them something doing but if they refuse and you fail to bring their names to me, you will pay the price, all I need is information. If they take this offer, I will not arrest anybody, I will empower, and integrate them but nobody should kill anybody.

“About this Monday thing, you must mobilize people to the markets, the Security to patrol the streets and everywhere because you know these boys and you know their parents. Any further killing(s), I will go after the parents of these boys let them see how painful it is. Spilling the blood of innocent people because you are promised heaven and earth.

“You allow people to import criminals and they are in the bushes killing our people and you are keeping quiet, enough is enough, I have charged Ebubeagu to roll out today and do their work.”

Earlier, the Commissioner for Works and Transport, Chief Ogbonnaya Obasi said the award of the contract was in continuation of the first phase spanning from 135 junction to Nwezenyi Junction.

He announced that the second phase has been partitioned into four lots by PATAN GLOBAL LIMITED, CGC Nigeria Limited, CCECC Nigeria Limited and Marcko KC Engineering/Asphalt Unity Joint Venture.
