Sunday Igboho Surrendered Himself To Government, They Couldn’t Arrest Him – Lawyer

A legal representative of Yoruba Nation activist Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, says the activist was arrested because he made himself available for it.

Sunday Igboho was arrested by local security forces at an airport in Cotonou, Benin Republic on Monday night. He was allegedly heading to Germany.

His lawyer Pelumi Olajengbesi told SaharaReporters on Tuesday morning that the activist surrendered himself.

He said: “As a matter of fact, let me tell you now. That Sunday Igboho was arrested simply because he wanted to make himself available to the government.

“If not, Sunday Igboho is not someone who can be arrested that way. But because he believes that the journey to justice for the Yoruba people and for the Nigerian state to be able to live in peace may be needed for him to be available, that was why.”

The Department of State Services, which declared Sunday Igboho wanted after raiding his Ibadan residence on July 1, has not publicly spoken about the arrest.

The activist is wanted for allegedly stockpiling arms. Twelve of his aides were arrested during the raid while two were killed in a gun duel.
