Gunmen Reportedly Kill SEDI MD Simon Ndubuisi, Aide In Enugu

The Nigeria police has been called upon by the house of representatives to investigate the killing of Samuel Ndubuisi.

This call was contained in a resolution which followed a motion of urgent public importance moved by Toby Okechukwu, a lawmaker from Enugu, during the plenary session on Thursday.

Recall that Ndubuisi, managing director of the Scientific Equipment Development Institute (SEDI), was killed on Wednesday by gunmen in Enugu state.

SEDI — based in Enugu — is a federal government institute under the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI).

Ndubuisi and his police orderly were said to have been shot dead by gunmen along the centenary city junction axis of the Enugu-Port Harcourt expressway.

Leading the debate on the motion, Okechukwu said that the protection of lives and property is the primary responsibility of government.

He said state governments are overwhelmed by security challenges.

Okechukwu noted that “bringing the killers to book would serve as deterrent to other criminal elements in the federation”.

The motion was unanimously adopted by the lawmakers after it was put to a voice vote by Femi Gbajabiamila, the speaker.

The house mandated its committee on police affairs “to liaise with the Nigeria Police Force to investigate, apprehend and prosecute the perpetrators” of the crime.
