Twitter Suspension: Buhari Not On Koo App – Bashir Ahmad

President Muhammadu Buhari is not on the Indian microblogging and social networking service known as Koo, his personal assistant on digital and new media Bashir Ahmad has said.

Mr Ahmad said in a disclaimer posted to Facebook on Wednesday that the account @mbuhari created on the app recently was an impersonator.

He urged the creator of the account to “take it down”.

“President Muhammadu Buhari is not on Koo, someone has drawn my attention to an account created recently on the App with handle (@mbuhari.) impersonating the President.

“Please know that impersonating a President has a great consequence, if it is you, or know the individuals behind the account kindly advise them to take it down,” he wrote.

The Buhari administration had last week suspended Twitter after the US-based social media giant removed a post by the president which threatened to deal with separatists “in the language they understand”.

Twitter said the post violated its rules.

The Federal Government, on its part, said it suspended Twitter for its role in Nigeria’s domestic affairs which it deemed capable of raising tension.

Although many Nigerians access Twitter via virtual private networks, the suspension of Twitter has enabled other microblogging sites like Koo App, Crowwe to come into the picture.
