Agitation For Yoruba Nation: Soyinka Disowns Fake WhatsApp Account

Nobel laureate Wole Soyinka has distanced himself from a message being circulated on WhatsApp by agitators of an independent Yoruba nation.

Soyinka, in a statement on Thursday, reiterated that he does not participate in Facebook, Twitter, blogging, WhatsApp or other social media platforms.

“Professor Wole SOYINKA wishes to denounce the fake WhatsApp posting on the Yoruba state agitation being attributed to him. Once again, he requests the public to ignore the utterances of those contemptible interlopers who lack the courage of their conviction and thus take to Identity Theft for the furtherance of their views” the statement read.

“For a start, Wole Soyinka does not participate in Facebook, Tweet, Blog, WhatsApp or other offerings of the Social Media. Any views that he wishes to express on national and other issues routinely go through the print media.”

Agitations for Yoruba nation have been on the rise since crimes attributed to Fulani herdsmen increased in the south-west coupled with the Federal Government’s seeming indifference to addressing the situation.
