Fear in Onitsha as Truckload of Live Bullets Falls; Police Arrest Driver as Conductor Flees

A truck filled with ammunition fell on Sunday in Onitsha, Anambra State, causing panic among locals.

It was gathered that as soon as the truck fell into a ditch and spilled its content, bullets littered the road.

Driver of the truck was reportedly arrested by the police, while his conductor fled.

β€œThe incident occurred on the Awka Road. It was discovered by those going to the church early in the morning. It has attracted heavy security presence to the road,” a source said.

β€œThe truck, a Mercedes Benz 911 model, was moving the goods out of Onitsha when the driver lost control and fell into a gutter.”

β€œThe policemen called for a backup and arrested the truck driver while his conductor escaped,” another source said.

Although Anambra police spokesperson Ikeng Tochukwu could not confirm the incident, a source told PUNCH that the army had come to the state police command to take the ammunition.
