Fear in Onitsha as Truckload of Live Bullets Falls; Police Arrest Driver as Conductor Flees

A truck filled with ammunition fell on Sunday in Onitsha, Anambra State, causing panic among locals.

It was gathered that as soon as the truck fell into a ditch and spilled its content, bullets littered the road.

Driver of the truck was reportedly arrested by the police, while his conductor fled.

“The incident occurred on the Awka Road. It was discovered by those going to the church early in the morning. It has attracted heavy security presence to the road,” a source said.

“The truck, a Mercedes Benz 911 model, was moving the goods out of Onitsha when the driver lost control and fell into a gutter.”

“The policemen called for a backup and arrested the truck driver while his conductor escaped,” another source said.

Although Anambra police spokesperson Ikeng Tochukwu could not confirm the incident, a source told PUNCH that the army had come to the state police command to take the ammunition.
