Ahead of the weekend by-election in Aba North and Aba South federal constituency seat, the All Progressives Congress, has said Mr Mascot Uzor Kalu remains its candidate.
INEC has scheduled Saturday, March 27 to conduct the State House of Assembly election in Aba North and Aba South of Abia state.
The ruling party official clarification was sequel to the claim in certain quarters that the Executive Secretary of National Agricultural Land Development Authority (NALDA), Prince Paul Ikonne, was the adopted candidate.
APC Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Yekeen Nabena, in a statement made available to Igbere TV on Friday, March 26, maintained that Mascot Kalu was the authentic candidate produced by duly conducted primary and accorded recognition.
He urged the public to disregard speculations in certain quarters contrary to the party’s position on the candidature of Uzor-Kalu.
The statement also called on all the party’s chieftains in Abia state to fully support and work for the success of Saturday’s election.
Part of the statement read: “APC is an orderly party. We have followed diligently the electoral procedures leading to the candidature of Mr. Mascot Uzor in Saturday’s bye-election and we are out to win and not just to participate.
“We also appeal to all the stakeholders, electoral umpire, and the general public to disregard anything contrary to the position of the party leadership regarding the candidature of Mr. Mascot Uzor.”
