The Federal Government of Nigeria is reportedly building a National Emergency Ambulance System that will be accessible by dialing 112, Igbere TV reports.
The Uber-like model and national network of ambulances will be a toll-free line – meaning that you do not need to have airtime/credit to dial the 112 number.
In fact, even a phone without a SIM may be able to call through to the 112 emergency number.
Government and Health Insurance Companies will cover operational costs and regulate quality of service. This will in turn create business opportunities for private sector operators.
The design is that when you dial 112 for a medical emergency, your call will be routed to the nearest available Ambulance to you – similar to pay ride services such as Uber, Bolt, etc.
A central control unit will also be in place to direct ambulance to appropriate medical facility, depending on what the emergency is.
Igbere TV gathered that the launch of the system should happen in the next few months beginning with the FCT.
