Promise Fulfilled: Abia Students Rejoice As Sen. Kalu Donates N10m For Hostel Building

Chief Whip of the Senate and philanthropist, Senator Orji Kalu has fulfilled the promise he made to build a female hostel at Holy Rosary Girls Secondary School, Umuahia, in Abia State.

Igbere TV recalls that Senator Kalu made the commitment during the ground breaking and fund raising ceremony for a World Class Multi-Purpose Hall in Umuahia held at the field of the Holy Rosary Girls Secondary School on Tuesday, 25th of Nov, 2020.

The former Abia governor, who was the Chief launcher/Special Guest of Honour had also announced a sum of N5 million naira donation to the school.

Two months later, precisely Wednesday morning, Senator Kalu fulfilled the promise, coming after meeting an earlier promise of donating sewing machines to the school.

Thanking the Senate Chief Whip for his donation, the Project Team Lead, Mrs Helen Mbakwe said words fail her as she cannot describe the flood of emotions that have swelled up her heart the moment the payment alert of N10 million hit their boss’ account.

In a statement made available to Igbere TV, Mbakwe said: “This money came just as the Finance Lead was sounding the alarm that we have only N4m liquid cash as we are about to enter the next phase of the Legacy Building Project.

“As you have wiped our tears today, God will not abandon you in your own day of need. Bringing out this chunk of money to enhance the Education of Girls who are not in a position to repay you will never go unrewarded.

“Our God, who sees in secret, shall reward you openly in Jesus mighty name. We will share this wonderful news with our OGA next week. That post will be forwarded to you too, for your website. We want the world to know that you have honoured your promises to us.

“Thanks a million for adopting our Alma Mater. Peradventure, you come in contact with any like-minded philanthropist, who is interested in Girl-child Education just like you, please don’t forget to chip in a word for your adopted HOROSCO Family.”

Speaking during the launching, Senator Kalu had described investment in Education as a continuous process, adding that it’s not something that should be stopped at any particular time.

In his words, “In fact, I wish that this school is situated in my senatorial district. I have a special love for this school and I have made it very clear that I will give my full support.

“My first donation for the love I have for the advancement of women which starts with the “Girls Child Education”, is that I will build a brand new hostel for this school and the building will be named after His Lordship, Bishop Iwejuru Ugorji.

“My second donation is to support the school with some amount of money to contribute to what they are doing. When the hostel is completed more students will have access to additional accommodation.”

The former Abia governor urged the Old Girls Association of the school not to relent in their quest to see that the project was actualized.

“I will also donate 10 sewing machines to the girls to encourage their skill acquisition department”, the Senate Chief Whip concluded.

Kalu was accompanied to the ceremony by Senator representing Akwa Ibom South, Akon Enyakenyi; former Abia Chief of Staff, Hon. Mascot Uzor Kalu; member representing Bende North State Constituency, Hon. Chukwu Chijioke; Hon. Sam Nwachukwu among others.

They were received by the Bishop of Catholic Diocese of Umuahia, His Lordship, Most Rev. Bishop Lucius Iwejuru Ugorji and National Chairman of All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Sir Chief Victor Oye.
