Obono-Obla, 2 Others Face Trial For Fraud, Certificate Forgery

The Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission (ICPC) on Friday arraigned former special assistant on prosecution to President Muhammadu Buhari Okoi Obono-Obla and two others before a High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in Apo, Abuja.

Mr Obono-Obla was accused of forging his academic credentials, while the others were alleged to have, among others, diverted funds meant for the furnishing of the SPIP office.

Arraigned with Obono-Obla, who was also chairman of the now disbanded Special Presidential Investigation Panel for the Recovery of Public Property (SPIP) were Obono-Obla’s ex-aide Aliyu Ibrahim and Managing Director of ABR Global Petroleum Resources Ltd Daniel Omughele.

They pleaded not guilty to the 10-count charges following which Justice Olukayode Adeniyi granted each of them bail at N1million with a surety, who must not be below the rank of Director in the service of either the Federal Government or the FCT.

Justice Adeniyi adjourned till March 17 for commencement of trial.
