Alleged $25,000 Bribe: Court Adjourns Suit Against Shehu Sani To Jan 27

A Federal High Court in Abuja on Friday adjourned the alleged bribery case filed against Senator Shehu Sani till January 27 over the prosecution’s unpreparedness to play an audio recording it tendered in evidence.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had on January 27 arraigned Sani on two counts of extortion and fraud for allegedly extorting $25,000 from a businessman Sani Dauda owner of A.S.D Motors. Sani pleaded not guilty to the charges.

EFCC counsel Ekele Iheanacho told the court that he only informed court registrar on Friday morning about the laptop.

Justice Inyang Ekwo wondered why the prosecutor had to wait only to contact the registrar on Friday to set up the audio.

“The matter was adjourned since October 23 and it is only today that you approached the court that you want to set up audio.

“You did not take any other steps before now so it means you are not ready for your case,” he said.

The case was adjourned until January 27 and January 28, 2021.
