DHQ Faults UN Report, Says 43 Borno Farmers Killed And Not 110

The Defence Headquarters has insisted that Boko Haram fighters killed 43 farmers on Saturday in Jere Local Government Area of Borno State and not 110 as reported by the United Nations.

Coordinator, Defence Media Operations Maj.-Gen. John Enenche said as of Monday morning, 43 corpses were recovered from the crime scene.

“I knew it (the issue) is going to come up particularly because it is coming from the United Nations and not a source that does not want to be identified. This is a source that has identified itself that 110 specifically (were murdered),” he said on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily programme.

Enenche added that he contacted the field commandants who told him they counted 43 bodies.

The spokesman, however, said the search for more victims was still on.

The killings have increased calls for the sack of the country’s service chiefs and overhaul of the security system.
