Court Remands 3 Suspected Killers Of Benue Prophet

A Chief Magistrates’ Court in Makurdi, Benue State on Monday remanded three persons in a correctional centre allegedly connected to the death of Prophet Jacob Uhembe.

The police charged the trio of Peter Terkimbi, Aondongu Hemboar and Justine Iorbee with criminal conspiracy, inciting disturbance, mischief by fire and culpable homicide, punishable under Sections 97, 116, 337 and 222 of the Penal Code Law of Benue State, 2004.

Magistrate Vincent Kor did not take the plea of the defendants for want of jurisdiction of the court to entertain the matter.

Earlier, the prosecution counsel Friday Kanshio told the court that the brother of the deceased, Terhemba Uhembe, reported the matter at the Divisional Police Headquarters, Daudu on November 3.

The complainant stated that 15 people, including the defendants, who are from Guma Local Government Area of Benue had accused the late prophet of Divine Shadow Ministry, Daudu of being responsible for the sudden disappearance of male genital organs of youths in the area.

He said that as a result of that, the youths set the prophet’s house and church ablaze.

The prosecutor stated further that the youths traced the prophet to where he was hiding at Yelwata village, killed him and buried him in a shallow grave in the bush.

Kanshio said that the defendants were arrested during police investigation while others were still at large.

The case was adjourned until January 6, 2021.
