Governor of Abia State, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu has directed the deduction of N30,000 pocket money he offered students of Abia origin in Abia State University Uturu, from their school fees, IgbereTV reports.
Students in Abia state under the aegis of Abia Joint Students Leaders had appealed to the governor to reverse the decision to offer them the sum of N30,000 bursary to mitigate the effects of COVID-19, and instead covert the sum to their fees and deduct from source, saying that it will be more impactful to them.
Consequently, Governor Ikpeazu accepted their request. He wrote on his Twitter handle:
“I’ve directed the management of Abia State University, Uturu, to deduct the N30,000 pocket money for students of Abia origin from their school fees as widely requested by the students. We’ll continue to listen & do whatever is necessary to ensure our high flying students excel”
