Media personality, Funmi Iyanda has reacted to photos of a starving lion and dozens of underfed animals at a Nigerian zoo, IgbereTV reports.
A starving lion was discovered by a shocked visitor to Gamji Gate zoo in Kaduna State, along-side a number of other severely underfed animals. The man contacted a wildlife charity group who has come to the rescue of the animals.
Funmi Iyanda who described the discovery as a “strong society metaphor”, further averred that ”caging something so powerful and beautiful, reduces it to an unrecognisable version of itself until it dies is typical mindless cruelty.”
She tweeted;
“Such a strong society metaphor.
Cage something so powerful and beautiful, reduce it to an unrecognisable version of itself until it dies is typical mindless cruelty.
The mindlessness is what makes it so effective because the cruelty is unplanned, slow and casual. It just is.”
