Police Morale Has Dampened Because SARS Has Ended β€” Yahaya Bello

Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello says the disbandment of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) has dampened the morale of the police.

The notorious police unit was disbanded following a protest dubbed #EndSARS which rocked several parts of the country especially Lagos.

Mr Bello said on Tuesday during an interview on Channels TV breakfast show Sunrise Daily that he would have preferred the unit to be reformed instead of being scrapped.

β€œIn the military today, in the air force, the navy, even civil defence there are bad eggs. Do you end those security outfits?” he asked.

β€œEven in the media today, as good as social media is, it has its own disadvantages that have set countries on collision course. Do you end the media?

β€œWe continue to ask for reformation. Now SARS has been ended, police morale has been dampened. They’ve gone off the streets and the hoodlums have taken over. Who do we report to?

I think we should have articulated our points and go about it in a more credible way not to be used by politicians.”

Bello claimed that the protest was sponsored by politicians who are looking ahead of the 2023 general elections.

The governor urged the youths to discontinue the protest.
