Chairman Of Northern Governors Forum, Lalong Rejects Ending Of SARS

Nineteen northern governors have rejected the scrapping of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) by the Inspector General of Police Mohammed Adamu.

The governors met President Muhammadu Buhari in Abuja on Thursday where they stated their position on the issue.

Protests have been ongoing in some parts of the country over SARS and its proposed replacement – the Special Weapons and Tactics Team (SWAT).

However, Plateau State Governor Simon Lalong who is also chairman of the Northern Governors Forum told State House correspondents after the meeting with Buhari that the police unit has been useful in the fight against insecurity in the region.

He said: “SARS is not made up of bad elements alone as it also includes personnel who are doing their work diligently.”

Mr Lalong said what is needed is the reformation of the unit to enable it discharge its functions “optimally”.
