Rivers Musician: Killer-Cop, Four Others Face Orderly Room Trial

Police in Rivers have said that five of its personnel who were involved in the killing of a Port Harcourt singer Chibuike Ikeaguchi alias Sleek are undergoing orderly room trial.

Rivers police spokesman Nnamdi Omoni disclosed this on Wednesday.

He said the trial was ongoing at the State Criminal and Investigation Department, Port Harcourt.

“The latest information available to me is that they are being tried in an orderly room. Sergeant Ben Isaiah (the alleged killer cop) and four others are from the Anti-Kidnapping Unit and not the Special Anti-Robbery Squad,” Mr Omoni told newsmen.

“At the end of the orderly room trial, those found culpable will be dealt with.”

Omoni further said the policeman who shot the singer had already confessed to the crime.

An autopsy conducted on Sleek’s body showed that he died of complications from gunshot wounds.

Sleek was shot dead on September 19 by a policeman at Elelewo in Obi-Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State.

The 20-year-old and a friend Reuben were waiting outside a hotel for the driver of a car-hailing company when they suddenly sighted men of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad advancing in their direction.

It was gathered that the duo ran in order not to be arrested and labeled as thieves. A policeman Isaiah Ben followed them and shot the singer in the back, leading to his death.

The incident sparked protest by angry youth in the area.
