Burna Boy’s African Giant Hits Silver in UK And “Own It” Hits Platinum For Second Time

African Giant, the Grammy-nominated album of Afro-fusion singer Burna Boy, has become the first Nigerian album to gain silver status in the United Kingdom.

The singer born Damini Ogulu shared the news with excitement on Instagram and also expressed love to everyone that supported him.

“African Giant silver in the UK 🇬🇧 & Own It x2 Platinum. Shouts to my brudda Stormzy 🏆 and love to everyone that supports us,” he wrote.

Silver certification in the UK means an album has sold 60,000 copies.

The news comes after the single ‘Own It’ by British rapper Stormzy featuring Burna Boy and Ed Sheeran got two-time platinum certification for selling 600,000 copies.

On another note, it was announced on June 4 that the 2019 single ‘Be Honest’ by British singer Jorja Smith featuring Burna Boy had been certified platinum in France.

Burna Boy had in March accepted a gold plaque for his 2018 hit single “On the Low’’. The gold plaque is for selling 100,000 plus copies.

A gold plaque can also be handed to an artiste whose single has been streamed 15 million times in the country, thus 15 million streams of a single in France is equivalent to 100,000 pure sales.

On bringing American rapper Diddy to produce his new album Twice As Tall, Burna told Punch newspapers in an interview published on September 20 that the American has a gift for good sound.

“I reached out to him and he came on board when the album was about 80 per cent done. He has a gift of sound and I felt the album needed some fresh ears and a fresh outlook. It was an honour to have him spend time on my project,” he said.
