Edo: 'We Will Plant 10 Million Trees Per Annum' β€” Ize-Iyamu

Every resident of Edo State will be encouraged to plant at least five trees so that as a State, Edo will be planting 10 million trees annually, as part of efforts to regenerate its depleting forests by the incoming APC government in Edo state.

The Edo APC candidate, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu disclosed this on Monday while speaking about the Environmental Health and Sanitation policy of the infrastructural development and urban renewal component of his manifesto, the Simple Agenda, in Benin City.

At an event monitored by Igbere TV, Ize-Iyamu said the APC government which Edo people will vote into office on September 19, 2020 will also enact a comprehensive environmental management policy that it will strictly enforce to, “..ensure that our waste management is handled in a more professional and efficient manner by emphasizing re-cycling and re-use”.

“Edo state presently has less than 10% forest cover which is way off the United Nations recommendation of at least 25%”, hence the state will leverage on the opportunity made available by the United Nations and the World Bank to gain enough carbon credit through carbon sequestration by planting more trees”.

According to the APC candidate, “A sustainable and scientific waste management system, which would include the use of engineering dump site, that prevents the pollution of underground water shall be employed”.

It is his opinion that the planting of more trees, and the professional and efficient waste management policy will not only ensure a healthier environment, but would also bestow additional source of revenue for the state.

Meanwhile Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu has declared that the number of the state’s functional compactor trucks will be increased while reputable waste managers will be engaged to keep the state clean.
