The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has rearrested Instagram celebrity Ismaila Mustapha popularly known as Mompha on new fraud charges.
Mompha was before his arrest facing money laundering charges before a Federal High Court in Lagos.
It was gathered that he was re-arrested last Friday when he went to the EFCC office in Ikoyi, Lagos to reclaim his five wristwatches, one Apple Air pod, one iPhone 8 mobile phone and one pair of sunglasses, seized from him by the anti-graft agency.
Justice Mohammed Liman had on July 24 ordered the EFCC to release the items to Mompha following an application by his lawyer Gboyega Oyewole.
According to the judge, the items could not continue to be held because the EFCC did not list them as exhibits in the money laundering charges.
Mompha’s lawyer told PUNCH he would file a court process on Tuesday concerning the rearrest of his client.
EFCC spokesman Dele Oyewale said: “The fresh arrest is unconnected to the existing charges in court. It is related to internet fraud.”
