Shinkafi Emir Accepts 5 Council Members' Resignation Over Fani-Kayode's Chieftaincy Title

Five members of the Shinkafi Emirate Council including the former first lady of Zamfara State Hadiza Abdulaziz Yari have relinquished their chieftaincy titles over the naming of a former minister of aviation Femi Fani-Kayode as Sadaukin Shinkafi.

The Sarkin Sudan Shinkafi Ibrahim Muhammad made this known to the news media on Wednesday.

The emirate has been thrown into disarray since the Emir of Shinkafi Muhammad Makwashe bestowed the traditional title on Mr Fani-Kayode. Those against the move say the former minister regularly speaks against the north.

Members of the emirate council who resigned are Sardaunan Shinkafi, Bilyaminu Shinkafi; Iyar Shinkafi, Hadiza Abdulaziz Yari; Uban Marayun Shinkafi, Tijjani Shinkafi; Dan Majen Shinkafi, Umar Ajiya; and Sarkin Shanun Shinkafi, Suleiman Shinkafi.

Muhammad, however, said: “Emir of Shinkafi had appointed their replacement and dismissed insinuations that the emir was compelled to appoint Femi Fani-Kayode as Sardaunan Shinkafi by the powers that be.

“It is the decision of the emirate council to appoint whoever it wishes. Therefore the appointment of Fani-Kayode as Sadaukin Shinkafi has nothing to do with anyone. The emirate has since moved on.”

He further said Aliyu Guraguri was appointed as Sardaunan Shinkafi, Umar Abdullahi as Dan Majen Shinkafi, Bello Shinkafi as Uban Marayun Shinkafi, and Usman Muhammad as Sarkin Shanun Shinkafi.

He added that the emir also made 15 new appointments with some members of the Shinkafi royal family given different titles.
