The Deputy Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, Hon. Yekini Idiaye has reportedly been impeached, Igbere TV reports.
Igbere TV reports that Idiaye was impeached on Wednesday during a plenary session at the Edo State Government House, in Benin City.
Idiaye’s impeachment comes barely 48hours after himself and four other legislators declared support for the APC and its governorship candidate, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu Iyamu.
The deputy speaker and the four other legislators had refused to decamp alongside the rest five sworn-in members to the PDP with the state Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki.
Following his impeachment on Wednesday, Hon. Roland Asoro, member representing Orhionmwon II State Constituency, was named Deputy Speaker.
The Edo State House of Assembly is a 24-member House. While 10 members loyal to Obaseki were inaugurated, 14 others loyal to Adams Oshiomhole, were not.
With the declaration of support for Ize-Iyamu and the APC by five lawmakers, only five were left with the PDP and Obaseki – and may be responsible for the impeachment moves.
The Edo Assembly, last month, relocated its sittings from its Complex to Government House – following Obaseki’s defection to PDP – over fears that the governor may be impeached.
