Guber Poll: Ojezua can't speak for us, Edo APC insists

…Says Uzodinma-led Primary Election Committee welcome in Edo

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo state has restated the suspension of its former state chairman, Anselm Ojezua, urging the public to disregard any statement credited to him as he does not and can no longer represent the party at any level.

State Publicity Secretary of the party, Chris Azebamwan in a statement issued through his Personal Assistant, Ogochukwu Isioma, said the suspension of Ojezua has since been ratified by the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party.

He was reacting to a statement credited to the suspended state chairman wherein he purportedly rejected the Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodinma-led Committee for the Edo state primary election scheduled for Monday, 22nd June, 2020.

The statement reads, “Our attention has been drawn to a statement credited to Barr. Anselm Ojezua who for the records, has been suspended from our great Party, in respect to the Edo State Primary Election Committee led by Imo State Governor, HE Senator Hope Uzodinma.

“For the avoidance of doubt, a vote of no confidence was passed on Barr. Anselm Ojezua by the State Working Committee of APC Edo State on 11th November 2019, and the resolution was ratified by the National Working Committee on 13th November, 2019.

“By that action, Barr. Anselm Ojezua is no longer the State Chairman of APC in Edo, and cannot purport to speak or act in that capacity. Simply put, Ojezua was merely speaking for the Edo State government house. His statement should therefore, be disregarded by the Edo State Primary Election Committee, our teeming members and the general public.

“We, on this note, welcome His Excellency, Senator Hope Uzodinma-led committee to our dear state and declare our readiness to receive his team in Benin City for our great Party’s Governorship primary election scheduled to hold on Monday, June 22, 2020.”

The APC National Working Committee (NWC) on Thursday constituted the election committee led by Sen. Hope Uzodinma, who is also the governor of Imo State, to conduct a direct primary in Edo State.

Members of the committee are Abdullahi Abass, Ibrahim Sabo, Ocho Obioma, Amina Muhammed, and Gbenga Elegbeleye while Senate’s spokesman, senator Ajibola Bashiru, will act as the secretary.
