Kalu: NANS Hails Supreme Court, Says Good Triumphed Over Evil

The National Association Of Nigerian Students (NANs), Abia State Axis has hailed the Supreme Court for nullifying the judgement of the lower court which sentenced the Chief whip of the Senate and senator representing Abia North at the red Chambers, H.E. Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, to 12 years imprisonment on corruption charges, Igbere TV reports.

The students community under the leadership of Comrade Eme Orji Frank, also felicitated with Mr. Kalu describing his victory at the apex court as well deserved.

The congratulatory message by Comrade Frank, was conveyed in a statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Media, Comr. Amusuo Cajetan Chukwudi, in Abia State on Monday.

Comrade Chukwudi quoted the NANS Zonal Rep as describing the victory of Senator Kalu at the Supreme Court as good triumphing over evil.

Reacting to the charges laid against the Abia State former governor, Comr Frank described the accusations as β€œacts of power driven individuals wanting to destroy the reputation of a good man and tarnish his political career forgetting power comes from God and as such, whom God has blessed, no one can curse as it is no news that the South East of the country expects the position of the presidency to be zoned to the region and Senator Orji Uzor Kalu is among the credible candidates for the position.”

In the statement, Comrade Frank described Uzor Kalu as a man loved by the masses for his humility and liberality, who has the interest of his constituents at heart and ready to improve the country at large.

He prays for God’s guidance and wisdom to carry out his duties while assuring the Senator of the undiluted support of the students community in Abia State to his office.

Igbere TV recall that the Supreme Court had on Friday, May 08, upturned the judgment convicting the former governor of Abia State, Orji Kalu.

In a unanimous verdict on the appeal delivered by Justice Ejembi Eko, the apex court declared that the conviction of the appellants was null and void.

Justice Eko said the judgement was nullified on the ground that Justice Mohammed Idris was already a Justice of the Court of Appeal at the time he delivered the judgment sentencing the appellants.

Eko said a Justice of the Court of Appeal cannot operate as a judge of the Federal High Court.

The former Governor of Abia was released from Abuja correctional centre following order of the Federal High Court sitting in Lagos on June 02 ordering his immediate release.
