A Federal High Court sitting in Lagos has ordered the immediate release of former Governor of Abia State, Dr Orji Uzor Kalu, from Abuja correctional centre.
Mr Kalu, through his team of lawyers on Thursday, May 14, had asked the Court to order his release from prison.
The Chief Whip of the Senate had argued that no legal base exists for his continued incarceration since the Supreme Court had in a judgement on May 8, 2020 quashed the conviction and 12 years jail term that was earlier handed to him.
However, in an ex-parte ruling on Tuesday afternoon, June 02, 2020, Justice Mohammed Liman, ordered Kalu’s release after listening to the suit filed by the legal team of the former governor Led by Lateef Fagbemi (SAN).
