A former governorship flagbearer of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Osagie Ize-Iyamu, has emerged the consensus candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo, Igbere TV reports.
Igbere TV learnt that Mr Ize-Iyamu emerged the consensus candidate on Tuesday night.
The former Secretary to Edo State Government (SSG) was unveiled by chairman of the screening committee, Senator Francis Alimikhena, who represents Edo North Senatorial District.
Other members of the screening committee were a former Edo deputy governor, Lucky Imasuen; Gen. Cecil Esekhaigbe; ex-Speaker of Edo House of Assembly, Thomas Okosun; former Minority Whip of the House of Representatives, Samson Osagie; ex-member of the House of Representatives, Patrick Obahiagbon and the current Deputy Leader of the House of Representatives, Peter Akpatason.
Ize-Iyamu, a pastor in the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), was the governorship candidate of the PDP for the 2016 Edo election.
He will now contend with the incumbent governor, Godwin Obaseki, for the party’s ticket at the June 22 direct primary.
