JUST IN!!! Gov. Obiano Reacts to Dismantling of COVID-19 Barricade at Niger Bridge

Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra State has reacted to dismantling of Coronavirus barricade at Niger bridge by Delta State Task Force on COVID-19.

Igbere TV had on Sunday reported the discovery of a giant gate mounted across the popular bridge, preventing both human and vehicular movements.

The bridge connects both Anambra and Delta states, and leads to other states including Imo and Abia. It was shut following the coronavirus-imposed lockdown.

But in a statement sent to Igbere TV, however, the Delta State’s Oshimili South COVID-19 Task Force on boundary enforcement said it had pulled down the barricade.

Signed by its chairman, Innocent Esewezie, he said the barricade at the Asaba-end had to be pulled down “to ensure there is passage and movement of vehicles on essential duties only across the border.”

However, in a statement made available to Igbere TV by Engr Ifeanyi ANIAGOH, Senior Special Assistant on Youth Devt. & Digital Entrepreneurship, Gov. Obiano said the Iron barrier at Anambra end of Niger Bridge remains standing.

He said no one from Delta State can remove, destroy or uninstall any structure in Anambra State.

The statement reads in parts;

“There’s a trending video about some youths dismantling the iron barrier erected at Bridge Head in Onitsha to control the movement of people, in and out, of Anambra State.”

“The said video shows Delta end of the Bridge and not Anambra State.”

“It’s important to emphasize that no one from Delta State can remove, destroy or uninstall any structure in Anambra State.”

“The Anambra end of Bridge Head remains barricaded and manned by Security Agencies to ensure that only persons on essential services gain access into the State.”

“The governments of Anambra and Delta States are harmoniously coordinating the ongoing efforts to curb the spread of Coronavirus and the barricade reportedly removed by some youths at the Delta State end of the Bridge is expected to be reinstalled by the State Government, as soon as possible.”

“Everyone is advised to stay away from State boundaries to avoid issues with security agencies and unnecessary exposure to unexpected difficulties.”

“This is a difficult time for everyone but if we take responsibility today, we will be sure of victory against Coronavirus.”
