The Executive Chairman of Enugu North Local Government Area (LGA), has denied news making the rounds that he have sold Akwatta Market, Enugu.
This is coming following the report alleged sale making the rounds on social media and published on some newspaper websites.
Igbere TV recalled that the Chairman, on March 23, 2020, shut down the Akwatta Market, in response to the poor hygiene of the sub-section of the Ogbete Main Market and its environmental consequences on the health and wellbeing of the people, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Denying the allegations in a 1 minute video, Mr. Emeka revealed that the market was not sold nor did the Enugu State Governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, ordered him sell the market to anybody.
According to him, the closure of market is for the benefit of the traders in Akwatta market to enjoy better services.
“I closed Akwatta market and temporarily relocated the traders of the Tomato market in Akwatta to Garki Market, Enugu, to enable the my council rebuild the section of the Ogbete Main Market to standard,” he said.
Speaking on the malicious allegations and attacks against governor Ugwuanyi, the Chairman said; “Governor Ugwuanyi is a very nice man; let us continue to support him.”
