Ozigi Forfeits N426m To Federal Government

The sum of N426.7 million which was traced to retired Brigadier-General John Onimisi Ozigi (rtd) has been forfeited to the Nigerian government as ordered by a Federal High Court in Lagos on Friday, May 8.

Following a motion filed by counsel to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in the suit which also has Diamond Head Ventures and Dev. Company Ltd as respondents, the verdict was passed on the case.

According to Justice Muslim Hassan, the money linked to the retired Brigadier-General was above his monthly salary of N750,000.

The federal high court judge held that the respondents failed to satisfy the court with concrete evidence why the money suspected to be proceeds of unlawful activities should not be forfeited to the government.

Justice Hassan said; “The application has met the conditions stipulated in Section 17 of of the Advanced Fee Fraud and other related offences Act.

“The application is meritorious and it is hereby granted as prayed.”
