COVID-19: Stranded Nigerians To Pay Before Evacuation – FG

The Federal Government says Nigerians residing abroad who wish to return home over the coronavirus pandemic will pay before their evacuation to Nigeria.

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama, disclosed this via a text message.

Asked if those who registered for evacuation would pay before or after their evacuation, the minister replied, “before evacuation.”

The newspaper said the minister did not respond when asked if there were plans for those who might not be able to afford a return ticket.

Since the coronavirus pandemic broke out, several Nigerians have been expressing interest to return to the country.

Last week, a video went viral of about 100 Nigerians being evicted from their homes and hotels in Guangzhou by the Chinese authorities.

The Federal Government had earlier confirmed that the prospective evacuees would bear the cost of the trip and would also be compulsorily quarantined on arrival.

As of Sunday, the registration exercise for Nigerians interested in returning home had ended with over 2,000 individuals enrolling for evacuation.
