The Spokesman for the House of Representatives, Rep. Benjamin Kalu (APC-Abia) has reiterated his advice to Nigerians on avoiding the coronavirus.
Hon. Kalu stated this in his Easter message while celebrating with Bende people on Sunday.
The Easter celebration, which symbolises the suffering of Jesus Christ on the cross, in Christianity, is now blighted by the coronavirus pandemic which has affected most countries in the world to close down and caused about 100,000 deaths.
Major states in Nigeria are already on lockdown as the federal and state governments strive to curb the spread of the virus which has caused ten deaths in the country and infected at least 318 people.
His message read: “My Dear People of Bende,
“HAPPY EASTER CELEBRATIONS
“I join you in the commemoration of the resurrection of our Lord and saviour, Jesus Christ, this Easter.
“It is true that this holy occasion comes at an embattled time for our people and our nation, however, I enjoin all sons and daughters of Bende to intensify prayers as we fight to overcome the COVID-19 pandemic and restore economic stability to all parts of the country.
“I also urge us all, in the spirit of Romans 13: 1-2 and 1 Peter 2: 13, to continue to cooperate with the Government in the fight against this pandemic; remembering to observe the public health protocols of social distancing, regular washing of hands and rules of hygiene as we celebrate this Easter in our various homes.
“I commend all religious leaders and Christian faithfuls in Bende for their responsibility so far in avoiding public gatherings. I also commend all health workers who are at the frontline battling this pandemic as well as Nigerians who have shown amazing strength during this trying period.
“While I pledge to continue to support the efforts of the Government to alleviate the pain of our people during this trying period, I encourage everyone, now more than ever, to emulate the virtues of love, sacrifice, forgiveness, humility, courage and endurance which Christ embodied; reminding ourselves that just as our Lord Jesus conquered death and triumphed over sickness, we shall triumph over this pandemic.
