Enugu State Commissioner for Health, Anthony Ugochukwu, has died.
The surgeon died on Friday night at Memphys Hospital, Enugu.
He was said to have recently returned from the United States.
A state lawmaker, representing Oji River at the Enugu House of Assembly, Jeff Mbah, confirmed the news.
Mr Mbah described his death as a ‘great loss’ to Enugu and Nigeria.
“We are talking about a renowned professor of surgery who has a lot to offer in turning around our health sector. It’s a terrible blow,” he said.
The deceased was a native of Oji River.
